Haircuts

It is the day before Picture day and do you think that the boys need a haircut?

BEFORE and AFTER

BEFORE and AFTER

They hate to get their haircut, with all the itchy hair that falls on them,
so this time I told Parker that he could have a "real" haircut at the barber....after all it was going to be picture day tomorrow. Believe it or not.....He wanted me to cut it! I guess he's just used to it by now. Maybe one day I should learn how to do it the real way! However, I must say ..."not too shabby, and the price is right!"

Help Your Neighbor Day

It was Help Your Neighbor Day September 20th 2008.
To help each other clean up after the wind storm. We didn't have to think hard as to which neighbor we were going to help. It was Sarah's B-day and we were all sitting in the sitting room and we saw Jason and Robin and Ryan outside picking up leftover tree debris in the front yard. So we all got on our grubs and tennis shoes and hauled ourselves outside. It was a lot of fun as we all pitched in together and cleaned up all the branches and leaves. We still have a pile of firewood to pick up. As Robin and I finished up the leaves, the boys went across to our house and started working on the Hickory tree. It was a huge pruning job. I was so impressed with how high Mark was in the tree that I took so many pictures. It is hard to show you how high he really was in the pictures, but I did my a best.

Happy Birthday Sarah!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH! 10 YEARS OLD!

Sarah Celebrated her 10th Birthday on September 20th, 2008.

I can't believe she has grown so much. Grown in every way, except in SIZE! She is still small (Her bones indicate she is the size of a 6 year old.) But she has matured in spirit. She is responsible and making so many good decisions. I can see that she wants to do what her Heavenly Father asks of her. I see her testimony growing by her good choices that she is making.
Sarah loves to be social and this year has been great . In 4th grade she is able to participate in after school sports. She is in Music and Cross Country, and loving it. She is doing great in School and loves activity days. She is reminding me of how much fun it is to be outgoing!

When I was wrapping presents for Sarah, Jakey came in with this monkey. He told me he wanted to give it to Sarah for her Birthday. It is a stuffed toy that was handed down to him by Elizabeth and now he wanted her to have it. I thought it was so sweet. He was hiding it in the bag so she wouldn't see it before it got wrapped. He named it for Sarah...."Super Monkey"

Early in the morning Parker and I sneaked out to bring back some Krispy Kream Doughnuts for Sarah's Birthday Breakfast

We All Enjoyed them!

At age 10 our girls are allowed to Peirce their ears, Sarah remembers when Lizzy had it done, and she has been waiting for sooooo long! So that was the plan for her B-day. Head to the Mall and go to Claires to get her ears pierced and spend her gift card money. She loved every minute!

Hurricane in KentuckY?

On Sunday Sept. 14th, the remnants of hurricane Ike came through our area! can you believe it. I thought I was through with Hurricanes and tropical storms after leaving Florida! thanks to Ike and another pressure system, we experienced high winds (no rain) and power outages. We were with out power from Sunday until Thursday night. Some people are still without power. School was out for the whole week. The Lord blessed us with beautiful weather during the week and we enjoyed finding creative ways to cook, shower(no hot water) and entertain ourselves. The kids played with their cousins and we colored by candlelight while reading scriptures. with the weather so nice, most of the time was spent outside....playing basket ball, playing at the neighbors and making "houses" out of the broken tree limbs that had fallen to the ground.

Mark bought 8 cans of gas, the first day. It was a good thing, gas was hard to get the next day.

Our Hickory tree lost a few limbs
Robin and Jason had to cut down their whole tree . All I can say is than goodness for Generators.

It was a great learning experience! To see how prepared we were. Many people had much worse damage and difficulties. Many people lost all the food they had in their fridge and freezers.
It was wonderful to see people work together. I love to see us unite together, especially when times are difficult. there is one group of families that live close together, some of them had electricity and others did not. One family had a trailer and they went to every one that didn't have electricity and collected their freezers and drove them to houses with electricity. I can just imagine some garage filled with several freezers. Some houses supplying electricity for families to plug in crock pots for their dinners.
Home teachers checking on their families and helping clean up damage. Making sure each family had a way to cook and sustain themselves. Visiting teachers checking on the "emotional" :) well being of each other (needless to say.....we needed a play date at the park for the kids...or was it for the moms...?) There were generators loaned out, freezer space offered, laundry "maids" for those in need. (my mom took all of my laundry and did it before she left for her trip when she received her power)
There is much power and strength in numbers and how the Lord does bless us with these experiences to bind us and bond us. We become more aware of what's most important in life....each other

17th year anniversary

Mark and I went to a Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary. Sept. 6th we celebrated 17 years! I can't believe it! I keep counting it up over and over, has it truly been 17 years!
Wonderful years I might add! Mark is everything to me! I hope I have been as good to him these years as he has been to me. The Lord has truly blessed me.
