Today we arrived in Roatan, the weather was very hot and humid. We immedietly felt it as we stepped off the plane. We had some trouble with are car rental. We sat at the airport for a good while. Nobody was there to assist us even though we had reservations for picking up the car. Luckily a worker happened to come in and he spoke very good Engilsh. His name is John and he is a native to Honduras but was raised in North Carolina. He took good care of us and we have a nice car. We then met Rosa at the Condo and checked into our place. As soon as we could, we had to set out for the beach to touch the water. It was absolutely beautiful and warm! I can't wait for the rest of the week. Then we went shopping for some food items, came home and went out to the water. Then after the beach we went to the pool. It was like bath water and we stayed in for so long. We had baleadas for dinner.
today at the airport I was sitting and waiting, here in Roatan. I witnessed a daughter, about in her late 20's, welcome her mother and father coming. She was so tender and loving toward her mother. She kept stroking her arm and smiling and telling her how glad she was to see her. It was so genuine and loving. I wondered how long it had been since they had seen each other. or maybe the daughter has been through a tough time and felt such love and securtiy from her mother. Across the way, just minutes later I see another woman in a dress and a blue shawl. Crying as she stared on the other side of the glass door to the boarding area. she was wiping away tears with her shawl, and just looking through the glass. I couldn't help but think maybe it was a family member that had to return from a visit. I could see that it was for sure someone whom she loved deeply. I reflected on the precious gift of eternal families and how much the Lord loves us. I reflected on my priorities and how important it is to put all that I have into the people that surround me, the people that I love and those that love me. Really, that is what is left, those memories and the love that is between you. The world is so busy distracting us, but really it is those relationships that mean so much. The Lord taught this to us, by his example. He taught us how important people are, everyone. He taught us how to love them, by his example. He wants us to remember and follow him, because that is what will make us happy. He wants us to have eternal families so that we will always have that hope to be together again and to know that goodbyes are only temporary. I am grateful for the blessings of the temple and the example of my Savior.
